The advancement in technology has seen man make great advancements that have changed his life. One of the best discoveries is the understanding that soil is only a nutrient reservoir. This discovery, which was made in the 18th century, saw the introduction of hydroponics. This is a method where plants are grown in solutions without soil. It is a great method to use since it is less laborious than normal plant growing. However, one has to select a reliable reflector to sustain suitable heat and light. Mylar has proven to be the best option. There are many reasons why Mylar sheets are preferred over other materials.

To start with, the material has high reflection capability when compared to other materials. This is the main reason why most farmers in hydroponics opt for the Mylar film. When light has been captured into a field, it is easily lost through reflection back to the environment. As a result, the plants do not get enough energy for photosynthesis. However, with the help of this material, a substantial amount of light is retained. The material has a high reflection capability. When light is bouncing out of the room, the Mylar film captures most of it and re-reflects it back to the plants. The results of this are improved plant growth.

Second, Mylar has been known to maintain suitable heat within the plant environment. Different plants have varying resistance to adverse temperatures. This is, however, not a major problem when using this material. Just as light can be reflected, heat can also be reflected. This is what makes this material a reliable option. It helps in retaining a favorable amount of heat within the environment. Proper plant growth is hence ensured with less work in temperature regulation.

A major problem that most hydroponic farmers face is the irregularity in heat and light distribution. This has been attributed to unevenness in the reflection materials used. The results of this are uneven plant growth. However, with the help of the Mylar sheets, the problem is significantly dealt away with. The Mylar roll has a regular thickness. This is the aspect that makes it the best option for even temperature distribution. The fact that the material is resistant to damages is another reason why it is used for even heat and light distribution. It is certainly the best material for hydroponics.

The main reason why Mylar has proven to be indispensable in hydroponics is the fact that it has high resistance capabilities to a number of damaging factors. A lot of money is wasted in repairing the reflectors in hydroponics. This is, however, not the case when using the Mylar sheets. They are designed for long life. The material has been known to be resistant to chemicals and shows no ionization even after long exposure. In addition to that, X-ray has no effect on Mylar. It is highly resistant to heat and hence a perfect option for this kind of farming. After the initial installation, the farmer is able to save significantly on both cost and time.
